Each year, approximately 8,000 Americans are bitten by venomous snakes. On average, 800 or so bites occur annually in California, home to an abundance of snake species, but only one is a native species with a highly toxic venom; rattlesnakes. In particular, the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake.
Toxin levels in rattler venom vary from year to year and season to season, but typically venom is weaker in winter and stronger in summer because snakes are more active, fighting for food and territory. Toxicologists are seeing a rise in the toxicity of the venom and are not certain why it is becoming increasingly potent. Some scientists suggest that with the modern world encroaching on habitats, it is just survival of the fitest.
LOL…”In particular, the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake.” As soon as I read that I stared over at the two albino diamondbacks I have. My Nor Pac is the only one here I worry about.
Diamond Backs are pretty uncommon in CA. Your most likely to hit North Pacific RS all over the state. Also, the Mojave Green is the worst to be bit by, not WDB.

A message from Serve Marketing:
”It seems local reptile owners are using our very graphic and powerful campaign to create awareness for their own issues-the negative reputation of reptiles. The great thing about using a powerful and well-known visual metaphor is that it does leave it open to the viewer to interpret it in his or her own way. The thing that the vocal reptile owners on our page are not taking into consideration is how the average person interprets a message like this. Which is only on the simple dimension that it is presented…an older guy preying on a underage girl is a “snake”-as defined in the dictionary as a ” treacherous or deceitful person.” Again in context with the subject presented. And same with rats. The visual metaphor aligns with one of the dictionary definitions of rat as ” a person regarded as despicable.” These are not “our” stereotypes, but actual dictionary definitions of these reptiles when they are associated in context with a person who is doing something bad-in this case preying on young girls. We certainly mean no harm to the overall reputation of snakes and rats, but we do believe that when used as a powerful metaphor that could lead to more parents talking with their kids about unhealthy relationships, it is certainly worth a little discomfort. We actually appreciate reptile owners defense of their animals and their passion. We are just as passionate about lowering teen pregnancy in our city and preventing more young girls from being preyed on by adult men, especially those that are significantly older than their female counterparts. Just know that we actually were very thoughtful in both our usage of the animals and our handling of them on the shoot. Keep fighting for what you believe in. We will too.”

I fucking hate this photo. I myself have been a victim of child molestation/abuse and I’m a snake lover as well. This is no way to represent what a predator or pedophile is. I hope this reptile hating, gender specific group burns in hell.
Bunch of bullshit. This add sucks. Contact the creators of the add (Serve Marketing & United Way Milwuakee) and tell them your thoughts.
